• Tick the items your require on your reorder form and place it in the prescription box in person at the surgery – red box located in the foyer of the building 
• Send a stamped addressed envelope and we will post your prescription to you – please note that you will still have to take this to your usual pharmacy for processing.

Repeat Dispensing is an alternative way of getting your regular medicines without asking your GP surgery for a prescription every time.

Your GP will need to check if you and the medication you take is suitable for Repeat Dispensing. The GP will then raise a batch of prescriptions (between 3 and 12 months, depending on how often you need additional monitoring such as blood tests etc..) and send them, electronically, to your nominated pharmacy. Your pharmacy will supply you with your first batch of medicines and they will discuss arrangements for future collections with you.

Non-prescription / over the counter (OTC) medication does not need a GP signature/authorisation in order for a school/nursery/childminder to give it.

It is appropriate for OTC medicines to be administered by a member of staff in the nursery or school, or self-administered by the pupil during school hours, following written permission by the parents/guardians, as they consider necessary.

It is not appropriate to make a GP appointment to acquire a prescription for an OTC medicine to satisfy the policy of a nursery/school

GPs will not issue prescriptions for non-prescription/OTC medication such as Calpol.

Help with NHS costs

In England, around 90% of prescription items are dispensed free. This includes exemptions from charging for those on low incomes, such as:

• those on specific benefits or through the NHS Low Income Scheme
• those who are age exempt
• those with certain medical conditions
